Who we are

The Humphreys Group is led by Dr. Joy Humphreys who collaborates with selected practitioners (our joyful collaborators) with complementary skills and expertise. Together we create and provide specialised programs to coach individuals and facilitate groups.

Using our experience, and training in systems thinking and psychodynamics, we design processes to enable individuals and groups make sense of their experience and work effectively together.

Dr. Joy Humphreys is the founder and leader of The Humphreys Group. After many years working as a nurse and midwife and facilitating major change projects, Joy became curious about stakeholder engagement especially the dynamics related to inclusion, exclusion, resistance, and collaboration. This led to psychoanalytic studies in leadership and organisation dynamics and diverse experiences of group relations workshops in Australia, London, Peru and the USA.

Joy is passionate about working with reflective groups and is accredited as a Balint leader by the Balint Society of Australia and New Zealand.  She has travelled to Paris, Oxford, Portugal and Helsinki to develop her leadership skills, and has co-led intensive Balint workshops in Australia and New Zealand.  Joy is a Balint leader of the  online WONCA international physicians, the Geelong Balint group, Williamstown Balint group and an online arts therapists group.

The Humphreys Group works with organisations, Boards and groups experiencing change, designing and facilitating group workshops. We provide coaching to Managers, executive teams, clinicians and individuals.  We also provide one on one executive role coaching using a systems and psychodynamic approach.

Joy is the Chair of the Board of Great Ocean Road Health, and a member of Balint Society of Australia and New Zealand, ISPSO, LeadR and the AFN.
